Track two is called Drugs. One way I've been into a band is by thinking how fun it would be touring with them. The Black Lips are one of those bands. Plus I once read an article about how some semi-naked guy was pissing in a half-full jar of honey and drinking it at one of their shows. Anyway this little trashy outfit emanates 'we don't give a fuck but we're cool about it' and thankfully with the inclusion of tracks like Again and Again they're a pleasure to listen to. The only shame is that the song Transcendental Light isn't on there. That song rules.

I first heard the Big Pink is a sleepy stupor early one morning on the radio when I was unforgivingly caressed out of slumber. The song was Velvet and it stuck in my head as one to hear again even long after I had forgotten what it sounded like. Just the other week I managed to get my mits on their album finally and went straight for Velvet. It didn't disappoint as expected. I uncertainly regret to inform you that the rest of the record doesn't do much for me. It seems to be this boring US indie band sound even though I'm pretty sure these guys are from the UK. But all the same it's worth checking out.

Okay so I generally post CD's that I'm really enjoying listening to at the moment up here. Unfortunately this new one from Lost Valentinos left me feeling more unexcited than channel ten tv. Seriously guys you started this Sydney-band sound a few years back then fucked around for aaaaages releasing shitty 12 inches and doing goodness knows what else. And finally when you release a proper CD it's got a bunch of tracks we heard like a year ago and a sound we got sick of at the same time. Even the cover art (courtesy of Jonathan Zawada) is dated. Sorry but the people need to know, just skip on this one.

Admittedly I missed the Sharon Jones and The Dap Kings boat when it was around last time. I only first heard of her/them with the cracker of a track Inspiration Information on the Dark Was The Night compilation. And since then I seem to be noticing her/them popping up everywhere. So furthermore I got right on to the CD and as expected it was a real banger! Nice a edgy but soulful too. The more adventurous I get with music from genres I traditionally have little experience in, the more I realise how cool the music was that my parents listened to when I was growing up. Thank you Mum and Dad for skipping the time warp phase and playing those Cafe Del Mar CDs when I was pissing you off at your ankles.

Neon Indian are a cool little Sydney band. Before I listened I heard them compared to a mix between Cut Copy and HTRK. Well that is 66% bullshit. They sound nothing like HTRK. And they sound only like Cut Copy doing Bright Like Neon Love. But listen to the first few tracks and try to tell me you don't feel as happy as you did this first time you heard Saturdays and Zap - Zap. Another relatively undiscovered Sydney gem (apologies to all that have been listening for some time).

As if his essential mix wasn't enough to prove to the world that he is the king of dubstep (courtesies to Skream), Benga comes through with a real proper CD (yes it has divided tracks with real gaps between them!) that is so slow and deep and delicious it will make you sink into your couch. Tracks like The Cut and 26 Basslines are not for the faint hearted and the co-lab track Night with Coki is the new posterchild for dubstep, move over Midnight Request Line. This is why I listen to dub.

There are 3 CD's that will always have a place in my heart and ears that I relate to one another. Since I Left You by the Avalanches, Tempovision by Etienne De Crecy and Tourist by St. Germain. So as you may imagine when I heard the prostitute alias name for electro, "remix", come up in the same sentence as Since I Left You I broke out in a cold sweat. My nerves were eased after hearing a relatively untampered version of the track since I left you opening. More or less a 2manydjs style mash up ensued with relatively carefully chosen songs that didn't leave me gagging on my own vomit which was somewhat comforting. Let me put it this way, you're not going to walk into the Louvre and spraypaint a Banksy stencil on the Mona Lisa even though it would be cool. Don't fuck with thing's that are best left un-whored. The CD was okay, but I'd probably prefer it if you didn't talk again.

I've been meaning to listen to Japanese Motors since they piqued my attention when they toured down here not long ago but tended to avoid them out of fear of them sounding like Ozzy Wright's band whatever they're called (they're shithouse). Anyway I bit the bullet and was pleasantly surprised but still curious as to whether they're having a massive piss-take of themselves. Anyway it's grungey but pleasant. Surf grunge to be precise. It sounds different and it's a good something-else to listen to when all your other CDs are pissing you off.
