RUT

I read so many blogs that I've become impervious to what I see on them now. RSS feeding places hours worth of brainfood in front of me while I sit there, eyes glazed over, drooling on my keyboard. Well and truly OD'd on all things novelty photography, and similarly novelty product design, baffling architecture and furniture. So you must understand the significance of something actually standing out, piquing my interest and drawing me from a 13" screen induced stupor. This is a modular piece of storage furniture. A neat idea, although the aesthetic doesn't really raise my heartrate; but a commendable effort all the same and a successful exploration of manufacture execution. "So what makes this piece intriguing," I hear you yell furiously. For me it's the use of pop rivets in assembly. Pop rivets are something I believe are usually negatively associated with unfinished spangled sheet metal, a purely functional fastener used in a barbaric manner for the most uninteresting purposes, and executed by fat unshaven men in fluro safety shirts. So it was refreshing to see the application of pop rivets in a more pleasant context. The matte finish, planar and expansive walls are complimented by the overt simplicity of each rivet head. I think a perfect union is created.
Compliments go to Nicola From Bern (link) who's done a bunch of interesting stuff with furniture, which is why I find it odd she's remained relatively unknown. Maybe I don't read enough blogs...

For now, Over and Out.
