Today Pavement Journal turns 100! Not really. But this is the 100th post on PJ, and thankfully I've got a incredible little piece of creativity born elsewhere, released into cyberspace and plucked from the cybersphere by yours truly, to be shared with you, reader. I, along with a whole generation of twenty somethings (give or take) had the pleasure of a childhood accompanied by Lego. Arguably the best toy ever manufactured, Lego has endured a history of undisputed praise, as apposed to it's speculated comrades, video-games, which have received unfortunate negative publicity at times. In an attempt to articulate what Lego means to me, and for the purpose of the blog, with reference to design, I believe that Lego is the immaculate embodiment of creativity, imagination, possibility and problem solving, amongst other qualities. However, the most incredible aspect of all this is it's appeal to children. No other toy on earth educates children and exercises creativity better. I do not feel alone when I reminisc upon my Lego years, and reflect with fondness on hours upon hours spent constructing and deconstructing a plethora of alternative forms. Lego is proof that some of the greatest products we have produced are spawned from the simplest ideas.
This video is a beautiful stop-motion animation about Lego. It pretty well embraces what I have described above, showing that the attitude about and love for Lego is universal. Anyway, have a watch and leave a comment telling me what you think if you wish.
I will unsuccessfully attempt stifle my overwhelming excitement, nostalgia and happily waver to a sincere desire to venture out tomorrow and move towards rebuilding my lego collection, currently comprised only of memories. Until then Lego, I remain humbly yours.
