Channel Chair by Patricio D. Andrade

I love seeing inspiration in design from other designs. Surely this example is hardly by coincidence. In saying that, there are so many chairs in the world that it is important, and nowadays a considerable requirement, to reference and derive inspiration from things around us to reinforce the importance of evolution in design. This explains my favourable predilection to Marten Baas' work. Aside from the 'Smoke' range, I'm not particularly attracted to Baas' pieces, however I love his philosophy. When questioned on whether he felt destructive when setting fire to beautiful baroque furniture he said that he felt he was breathing new life into an object, by evolving it into another form and simply making it take another step in its lifecycle.
With reference to the following example, I believe that although this piece has a contrary meaning behind it, it is aesthetically similar to the famous Eames LCW seat. I think it has been executed immaculately and hasn't bastardised a design icon. I think it pays tribute to the Eames LCW in a sophisticated manner.
And finally I will highlight the importance of a chair that I find interesting enough to post about. Chair design is difficult, something I would meticulously contemplate before I tried myself. So is it this chairs similarity to the beautiful, iconic and bespoke Eames piece that makes it appealing? If that is the case, then the success of the chair is owed to the Eames'. Or would someone who had never laid eyes on the LCW or the LCM for that matter be as attracted to this chair as myself? That is something that is open to much interpretation and speculation, and is also what makes design so interesting and analysis so riveting, and what I adore it so dearly. So please, leave a comment and tell me what you think.
