The Diving-Bell and the Butterfly

I managed to finish the book in just one day. Being a very slow reader, there is only one other book I have ever finished in record time, that being Breath by Tim Winton. The Diving Bell and the Butterfly was written beautifully and to not give anything away I will simply say that the story behind the books composition is incredible. It's amazing to think that even after being translated from French, the English version is still so pleasurable to read. This book is a tribute to literature. This is probably my favourite prose excerpted from any literature I have ever read:

"For pleasure I have to turn to the vivid memory of tastes and smells, an inexhaustible reservoir of sensations. Once I was a master at recycling leftovers. Now I cultivate the art of simmering memories." - The Diving-Bell and the Butterfly, Jean-Dominique Bauby
